Katja Hippe (née Frey) comes from near Schwäbisch Gmünd (Baden-Württemberg / Germany). After graduating from high school, she studied musicology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed her studies with a master's thesis on the composer Werner Heider. She has been playing the accordion since she was young and still plays this instrument in the Nuremberg Accordion Orchestra (NAO). Together with her husband Stefan Hippe, she arranges works for accordion orchestra for the RUNDEL music publishing house.
