Homeward Voyage was written in Autumn 2011, on commission from the Shimofukuda Junior High School wind orchestra. The première of the work took place on 27 March 2012 in Yamato, a town in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa. The current residence of the composer, not far from Tokyo, is about a thousand kilometres distant from his birthplace to where he returns several times a year. On the journey there he is always full of expectant joy on seeing his family and friends. This warm feeling can easily be heard in Homeward Voyage.
