Info

Leopold Kozeluh (1747-1818) was born at Velvary in Bohemia and had first music lessons with his cousin Antonín. Later he studied law in Prague, but then turned to music. After first successes he decided, in 1778, to embark on a musical career in Vienna. Kozeluh left behind a vast musical legacy. He composed in an easy and pleasing style, and his works were not demanding at all - as the “Gigue” will tell us. This may presumably have been the reason why he was popular with the majority of the period audience and even stood up to the works of Viennese Classicism with them.
