The contemporary environment of man calls for a balance between spirit, the thinking, motivating part of man and his emotions with both psychical and physical manifestations. This balance is probably more important today than it was ever before. It is the essential requirement that will enable man to meet the demands of society and working world on the one hand and it is the determining source on the other hand to develop creativity and capabilities which are not materially measurable.
The composer describes this area of tension with the expressive means of music. The individual sections flow into each other and therefore make the contrasts mentioned not only stand out prominently, but also underline the necessity for a balance between them.
The first and third sections of the work are determined by a forward pushing, rhythmically energetic basic motif. This »pulsation of life« is revealed in many different forms and finally ends in an enormous emotional outburst. The center section, which is bordered by those throbbing parts, is of tranquil and even tender nature.
Making use of the tone colors of a symphonic wind orchestra, emotions like security, happiness, love, and hope - powers hence that constitute an enrichment of human life - are described in subtle musical shades.
