Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr

Info

The Concert Band of the German Armed Forces was deployed in Rheinbach in 1957. By November of the same year the band had performed ceremonial duties in the still young Federal Republic of Germany. With the guards battalion of the Federal Department of Defense the band still does honor services such as official receptions or accreditations of ambassadors. In 1959, the formerly named Central Band of the German Federal Armed Forces was relocated to its new garrison town Siegburg. The group’s popularity grew far beyond Germany, with brilliant performances offered throughout Europe and Japan, the U.S.
and Russia,. In 2000, the ensemble was reconfigured as a prestige concert band for domestic and international service with the title “Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr” (Concert Band of the German Armed Forces). Continued remarkable performances at venues like MidEurope in Austria, the international conference of WASBE in Sweden and the World Band Festival in Lucerne further established the band amongst civil superlatives. Since then, the Concert Band of the German Armed Forces is both a popular band and a trend-setting benchmark of wind band culture. About 50 concerts a year plus the band’s diversified repertoire delight a broad public. The band performs with top-class artists like Jiggs Whigham, Andy Haderer, Matthias Höfs or with famous ensembles like the German Brass. In 2015, the Concert Band of the German Armed Forces and the rock band U.D.O. rocked the stage of the world’s biggest heavy metal festival in Wacken in front of 75.000 fans. A well-noted discography completes the stellar picture of this musical flagship. These uniformed musicians are proud of bringing joy to many thousands of people for more than 50 years and especially of having collected more than 7 million Euros for various charity events.
