The Fegerländer are a young traditional folk music group from the Carinthian region in Austria. Under the slogan “Der Blasmusik Schlager” (wind band schlager) the 13 musicians combine Bohemian band music at the highest level with modern schlager big band music. They thrill their audience with a unique sound, great arrangements and creative compositions.
In 2010, the Fegerländer were awarded the "European champion of the Bohemian traditional music" and won several other prizes, such as "Das Goldene Flügelhorn" (The Golden Flugelhorn). Inspired by this important award, the drummer of the Fegerländer Walter Grechenig composed this wonderful same-titled polka (with vocal part), that cherishes the flugelhorn as a "royal" instrument.
Walter Grechenig is musician, teacher, bandleader, composer and producer from Carinthia in Southern Austria. After 10 years at the music school he began his studies at the Carinthian Conservatory with drums as major and trombone as minor subject, graduating four years later. In 2006, Walter also founded the Fegerländer with some friends. They have achieved big international success. Today, Walter Grechenig is a teacher for drums in the music schools of Carinthia.
