In December 2007 the German composer Markus Götz visited Midwest Clinic in Chicago, one of the most important events for Wind Music. He was very impressed by the positive atmosphere and how the whole festival was bustling with energy. This unique spirit and fascinating impressions of Chicago in the winter inspired him to write CHICAGO FESTIVAL.
A distinctive opening theme represents the dynamic atmosphere of “MIDWEST Clinic”, and the lyrical section describes the view over the beautiful wintry Lake Michigan. A subsequent cheerful passage is dedicated to the thousands of young people making music during the festival. A reprise of the opening theme and a sweeping finale bring CHICAGO FESTIVAL to a close.
Markus Götz dedicates this composition to his publisher Thomas Rundel who had accompanied him to Chicago.
The accordion orchestra version of this piece is combinable with the concert band version!
