"Rejouissance" was commissioned by the St. Joseph Municipal Band in Michigan (USA). The French word "rejouissance" means "joy". In the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, "rejouissance" meant a short composition of a cheerful, playful nature that brought joy to the listener. This fantasy, which is not bound by conventions of form or style, is based on the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott) by Martin Luther.
