Info

“Le nozze di Figaro”, in English “The Marriage of Figaro” is an opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Koechel Catalog shows this work as number K 492. The Italian libretto stems from the pen of Lorenzo da Ponte and is based on the stage comedy “La folle journée” (The Crazy Day) by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais that dated back to 1778. The opera was first performed at the Vienna court opera house on May 1, 1786 while the German premiere took place in Donaueschingen on September 23, 1787.

Cherubino’s aria from Act II of the opera opens with the following words “Voi che sapete che cosa è amor” (You ladies know what love is). Pavel Stanék in turn transformed this vocal number of the opera into a charming arrangement for wind band. Apart from the euphonium, the French horn or a baritone would suit aptly as solo instruments.
