Anton Absenger was born on June 1, 1820 in Zerlach, Upper Austria. As a flügelhorn player he performed e.g. with the Kapelle J. Gungis. In 1852, he became watchman master (Türmermeister) in Leoben, where he also founded a music school and a band for boys. With a traditional music group he did several travels worldwide. At the age of 79 Anton Absenger died Graz in 1899. His musical legacy contains several compositions for band, e.g. his famous "Rosegger-Marsch", written in 1938.
