A Sailors Adventure
Overture
Info
This little overture is composed in Aeolian minor. As it is the leading tone which is missing here, the work is of a more undecided nature – which often is identical to the behavior of a young sailor sailing across the seas. The central section (in major mode) suggests that the seaman goes ashore where there is a magnificent tropical island. This is why the music is of very gay spirit here. It sounds very much like a waltz portraying the waves of the sea. In the Da Capo (D.C.) to follow there again is the lure of the sea. The coda – grandioso, happy and in the major mode of course – symbolizes the safe arrival of the young sailor in his home port.
