Inspirations by folklore are a recurring element of Stanék's compositions . He stated that he does not require any inspiration beyond music, and that his works are pure music, nothing but music.
The ”Czech Folk Dance Suite” is clearly inspired by the treasure of folk music to be found in his home country, but it does not become musically stunted by simply stringing together one folk song after the other.

The first movement gets its energy from the fast tempo and the numerous changes of even and odd meter.
In the second movement you can hear the soft melancholy of bohemian folk music with rays of hope always shining through. This movement reminds of a pastorale but changes in harmony make it more dramatic.
The third movement clearly shows the fiery bohemian temperament. A short expressive middle part reminds us of the sentimental side of this folk music. But then the "Czech Folk Dance Suite" comes to a fulminant ending.
