Commissioned by the All Japan Band Association for one of the 1992 required pieces for the 40th All Japan Band Competition. "NEREIDES" was composed after the experience of crusing around the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea. Waves which were seen from the deck are changing becoming mystic and being transformed through the viewpoint of diving gradually becoming attractive and beautiful underwater landscapes. There impressive experiences in the Aegean matured to became colorful sound parties as if the waves were splashing. Nereides are nymphs that were the daughters of Horace and Doris in Greek mythology. In this piece, the Nereides are the symbol of the sea.
