The Story of Hilti
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Band of the Hilti Company located in Schaan/FL, Kees Vlak was commissioned to dress the history of the company into a musical fairy-tale. It is the story of the incomparable Hilti nail.
To execute this attractive commission, namely depicting the technical triumph of the Hilti direct assembly into comprehensible music, the composer chose five impressive pictures:
In the first picture rhythmic patterns of the percussion symbolize the idea of a revolutionary technique.
The result of this idea was the production of the so-called Hilti nail. It is portrayed by a climactic anvil solo in the second picture.
The third one of these musical pictures is a reverence to the principality of Liechtenstein and its people.
The fourth picture finally probably is the most important one for the company, as it describes the successful dissemination of the revolutionary Hilti technique around the world. The composer skillfully selected musical motives that may be associated by everybody with the locations of Hilti plants the world over. They may be found in neighboring Austria or Germany, but also in the Far East.
The technical triumph of the Hilti nail is musically reflected in the fifth picture as musical apogee when it returns to its home country, to its “ancestors”.
The message of Kees Vlak’s music consequently is an impressive picture of the inseparable “Hilti connection”.
