"Little Concert Suite” by Fritz Neuböck was first composed as a quartet for two trumpets, horn and baritone with the title “Little Suite”. When transcribed for concert band it was included in the RUNDEL Series Basic Sound. Regarding the series idea “From S to XXL” the conductor can adjust the piece to his band’s instrumentation. Minimum requirements (“Basic Sound”) are clearly bracketed in the score. While the first Movement of “Little Concert Suite” is of only nominal difficulty, the second and third movements have a few challenges in rhythm and intonation, providing possibilities for the band to grow with the rehearsals. With his classically conceived suite, Fritz Neuböck created an easily playable concert piece that is a valuable enhancement to young band repertoire. The dynamic marking “f-p”, forte-piano in the beginning applies to the repeat. The conductor can also bring out several parts at certain passages or let them tacet – offering many possibilities and tone colors. Fritz Neuböck explicitly wants to set no limits to interpretation.
BASIC SOUND
From S to XXL – Music for any band instrumentation
"Basic Sound" is a series by RUNDEL Music Publications offering an attractive and diversified repertoire to bands at grade 2 or 3 level, of sizes S to XXL. "Basic Sound" allows for performances by groups with limited instrumentation. Minimun requirements are clearly bracketed in the score.
The smallest size (S) of "Basic Sound" is based on the following instruments:
one (1) flute, two (2) clarinets, one (1) alto-saxophone, two (2) trumpets, one (1) trombone, one (1) baritone/euphonium, one (1) tuba and percussion.
Each edition also includes a full set of parts (XXL). That way the conductor can adjust the pieces of the "Basic Sound" series to his band's instrumentation.
