Hermann Kuen was born on 31st January, 1921 in Sulzberg (Allgäu) and grew up in a familiy of important musicians. His father was National music director Paul Kuen and his brother famous tenor Paul Kuen jun. als Tenor, who sang on opera stages all over the world. Hermann Kuen learned first the violin, later piano and organ. At the age of 14 he added horn, trombone and accordion. As autodidact he passed the exam as condtor at the University of Music in Heidelberg and succeeded his father in the position as conductor of the band in Sulzberg. 1968 he was announced principal conductor in the Allgäu-Schwäbischer Musikbund (ASM) and from then on responsible for the musical developments of this association. His leadership gave a boost to the education of wind players and his curriculum was adopted all over Germany. 1988 he was announced titular principal conductor of the ASM and received several honours for his work and dedication.
Hermann Kuen died on 26th July, 2009 in Kempten.
