Gottfried Veit | Composers

Gottfried Veit was born in Bolzano on the 13th August 1943. He received professional musical education attending the Academy of Music and Arts "Mozarteum", Salzburg, and the National Conservatory “Claudio Monteverdi” in his hometown Bolzano. After his studies he continued his education with Henk van Lijnschooten in conducting orchestras and with Helmuth Rilling in directing choirs.

Today Gottfried Veit is regional director of music for South Tyrol as well as conductor, composer and free-lance worker at RAI Bolzano. As a conductor he keeps performing with the South Tyrolean Woodwind Orchestra, the Junior Woodwind Orchestra “VSM” of the Bolzano Woodwind Orchestra, the “Zwölfmalgreien” Music Band, the “St. Michael-Eppan” citizens’Band, the “Gelf” Choir, the children’ s Choir “Leonhrad Lechner” and the great Bolzano Brass Band.
Moreover, he’s composed more than 300 pieces for brass orchestra, choir, piano, organ and chamber music for various instruments.

Furthermore, he published the books “A research about the hisotrical development of Brass Music and The Brass Band today – who plays what?” as well as several specialist articles.

Since 1995 Gottfried Veit has been a member of the Committee of Experts “Wind Music” within the International Association of Music CISM, and of the “South Tyrolian Association of Artists”. He also devotes himself to teaching by giving lectures, seminars and workhops, among others at the Academy of Music, Marktoberdorf, the Bruckner Conservatory, Linz, and the University of Music, Graz. He’s often acted as a member of the jury in national and international music competitions.

Recently, Gottfried Veit has foremostly written commissioned compositions for associations and other institutions.
