Wind bands in Central Europe perform in churches for a very long time. In the 19th century they were even founded as substitute for organs in rural areas. Churchly music is still an important part of wind band culture. Composer Alfred Bösendorfer chose three well-known chants of the 17th century and createt the piece „Drei Meditationen“ (Three Meditations). The text of „Wie soll ich Dich empfangen“ traces back to Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676), the melody was written by Melchior Teschner. The second piece „Christus ist mein Leben“ is taken from the "Begräbnis-Missa" SWV 279 by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672). And the last part is „O, Du mein Trost und süßes Hoffen“ by Johann Wolfgang Franck (1644-1690).
This very personal selection and the transformation by Bösendorfer is a very appealing enhancement of the RUNDEL series „musica sacra“.
